Looking for the best boutique hotels in Tepoztlan, or “Tepoz”, as we Mexicans call it? I’ve got you covered!
Tepoztlan is a charming town nestled in the mountains of Mexico that features great weather, hip restaurants, and tons of natures, making it a great place to escape the bustle and hustle of Mexico City considering it’s just one hour away.
It’s definitely what I consider to be one of the best day trips from Mexico City, but if you have the time, staying here for a night or two is highly recommended!
What’s best? Despite its somewhat rural feel, I’ve visited Tepoz numerous times and can definitely say it has some of the coolest boutique hotels in the central Mexico area!
Best Boutique Hotels in Tepoztlan
1. Hotel Amomoxtli
Amomoxtli was the first hotel I ever stayed at in Tepoztlan and to date, it holds a special place in my heart!
Located in the outskirts of Tepoztlan, this hotel is perfect if a relaxing getaway away from everything sounds like your jam. You’ll find an array of gardens and cozy spots to unwind in, not to mention that it also offers a heated outdoor pool and two jacuzzis where you can pretty much spend the day in.
What makes Amomoxtli so special to me is that you’ll feel taken care of at all times. A great example of this is how they’ll leave a basket with fresh coffee and warm bread every morning by the door so you can wake up and enjoy them in your terrace of balcony! It’s details like this that make it my favorite hotels in Tepoz for sure.
Another highlight is their spa, which offers traditional temazcal ceremonies and an array of treatments.
Last but not least, don’t miss out on dining at Mesa de Origen. It’s on-site and definitely one of the best restaurants in Tepoztlan. Breakfast is included here, but make sure to also visit for dinner at least once!
A downside to Amomoxtli is that it’s not walking distance to Tepoztlán’s center, but it does have easy access to hiking trails, so there’s that! If you didn’t bring a car, you can easily arrange for a cab at reception.
2. Casa Fernanda Boutique Hotel
Casa Fernanda is one of the best hotels in Tepoztlan, especially if that you’re after is a serene retreat and a centric location.
Despite its boutique hotel status, you’ll find the rooms are pretty spacious. They’re decorated with local artwork and handcrafted furnishings and each rooms features a private balcony or terrace.
Moreover, what makes this hotel in Tepoztlan great is its outdoor area, where you’ll find lush gardens, tons of artworks and sculptures, and an outdoor pool that’s perfect for relaxing. It also offers a spa.
Tip: Make sure to try their breakfasts! The restaurant at Casa Fernanda, La Veladora is a must try! I loved the food but also it’s gorgeous decor, not to mention that it’s in an outdoor setting.
Big highlight: It’s one of the few boutique hotels in Tepoztlan that are located within walking distance to the main square (most of them are on the outskirts), so it’s a perfect choice if you didn’t bring a car and want to have easy access to some of the main attractions in town.
3. Hostal de la Luz – Spa Holistic Resort
Nestled in the mountains, Hostal de la Luz is another of the best hotels in Tepoztlan.
Service-wise, I’d consider Casa Fernanda and Amomoxtli to be a bit better, but what makes Hostal de la Luz a treat is its stunning views and uber-Instagrammable spots all over.
Yoga and meditation classes are offered regularly, as well as temazcal and other services to help you re-connect (it’s said that the mountains in Tepoz are very energetically-charged).
You can also relax at the on-site spa, where various treatments are available to help you relax and you’ll love the views from the on-site pools (there are several all over the property).

The complex consists of 3 cabins equipped with kitchenettes a full bathrooms, with the option of a jacuzzi. Other amenities include outdoor hammocks, a fire pit area, free WIFi, and a coffee maker.
It’s worth mentioning that this lodging option is pet-friendly, making them one of the best hotels in Tepoztlán to book if you don’t want to leave your furry friend behind.

Mocca is the perfect hotel in Tepoztlan if you want to be close to the hustle and bustle of downtown without staying in the midst of it.
The hotel consists of a series of cabins divided in two floors that surround a beautifully tended garden. Despite this, the amenities are high-quality, and a top-notch experience is guaranteed here!
Some rooms also come with private terraces where you can enjoy stunning mountain views, and there’s a suite that features a private outdoor mini pool which is the one I recommend booking!
They do also have an outdoor pool available to all guests, so if the suite is booked, don’t worry too much!
